I am the founder and Chief Executive of Daybreak FGC, the registered charity recognised as a centre of excellence in the provision of family group conferences and associated training and consultation services. This has grown from a small Hampshire based agency in 2000 to a national and international organisation, taking a national lead in the development of this innovative model of participative practice with children, vulnerable adults and their families. My background is as a professionally qualified social worker, social work manager and trainer. I have worked in the UK and Canada. I have presented and led workshops at a wide range of national and international conferences, in Europe and the USA.The growth of Daybreak has been achieved due to our reputation for high quality outcomes, caring and value for money. We achieve outstanding outcomes for children, young people, vulnerable adults and their families, whilst enabling Local Authorities to make substantial savings. The Transition Fund enabled us to train and involve a significant number of volunteers in our work.We have led the development of quality standards in this field, introducing a Register of Daybreak Coordinator Practitioners, and we are participating in the national working party developing standards for the accreditation of FGC programmes across the country. We work particularly in the context of child and adult safeguarding, and domestic abuse and violence. Our programmes address these issues, and the training supports the method. The organisation was founded on strong principles and values that are congruent with those of family group conferencing and which underpin our success. I lead a team of experts in the various contexts of family group conferencing. I encourage creative and innovative thinking, supported by the team’s commitment to innovation, and robust policies, practices and standards which enable the implementation of new programmes to be outstandingly successful.

Manager Of The Social And Community Work TeamDiocese Of Winchester 1985 - 1999WinchesterI was asked to apply for this post, to enable a change in culture and practice in how social and community work was delivered and managed in the Diocese. The post involved management responsibility for 6 social work posts in a variety of community based programmes. Most of the work involved women and children, many of whom had experienced domestic violence. The post included responsibility for the assessment of the team’s training needs, and implementation of appropriate training, particularly about working with vulnerable women and children. During this period there was a growing recognition of the need to enhance and strengthen the child protection procedures and practices of the diocese, and I was instrumental in ensuring that this took place.I became a founder member of the Wessex Consortium of Voluntary and Independent Agencies. This was set up to provide quality practice placements to social work students. The role involved liaison with the universities of Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth. I acted as the Chair of the Consortium for three years. I also acted as an Independent Person commissioned by Hampshire County Council to undertake investigations and provide a report for the Director into a variety of official complaints against officers of the Social Services Department.I also become an accredited social work practice teacher during this time, and was commissioned to act in this role to students from the universities of Southampton and Portsmouth.
