Marilyn Westfall has published poetry, fiction, essays, and interviews. She taught freshman composition and sophomore literature at Texas Tech University. She also served as the programs director at First Unitarian Universalist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and during her tenure was responsible for developing Sunday services, special events, and community workshops that included a sexuality conference and a forum on progressive religion. Together, she and her husband Peter created and managed The Blue Sage Coffee House, which featured musicians and performers such as Cheryl Wheeler, Chuck Pyle, and actor Barry Corbin who recreated his role as Charlie Goodnight in a revival of Andy Wilkinson's "Charlie Goodnight's Last Night."She has served on the board of the American Humanist Association and presented lectures on the rise of humanism within Unitarianism. With co-editor Michael Jones, she created and edited an online magazine, The Eloquent Atheist.
