Marilyn is the founder of Runcible Studios, a licensed Architect (MA, PA, ME), a real estate investor and operator, and a former adjunct professor and general contractor. She is the author of "Building Knowledge," a weekly newsletter focused on the design and construction industry.Runcible Studios works primarily in the greater Boston, MA and Lancaster, PA markets, although Marilyn has consulted on projects nationally and internationally. Runcible focuses on projects where high-touch services are needed, in complex jurisdictions - custom full-gut renovations, multifamily/mixed use projects for developers, and unique commercial/industrial projects.Marilyn's design work leverages her varied experiences to bring her clients well-considered, delightful, sustainable, and clever spaces and buildings that emphasize good design, constructability, and her client's needs. She previously practiced architecture at Utile, Inc. in Boston, and worked as a construction project manager, contractor, and estimator in Charlottesville, VA.Marilyn's teaching emphasizes reflective/double loop learning, tectonics, rigorous research, contextual analysis, the importance of making, and the development of each student's abilities to analyze, understand, and evaluate their own processes. She has taught at Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Boston Architectural College, and was the Director of Practice Instruction and Community Engagement Projects at the BAC. She also currently serves on the Advisory Board for Northeastern University's NuLawLab, and formerly on UVA's Architecture Young Alumni Council, and as a founding member of The Productive Collective.Marilyn's research interests include the economic/catalytic potential of design and design thinking, rethinking construction paradigms and economies, methods of climate mediation in vernacular housing, the pivot point between climate and culture, alternate modes of practice, and in [re]understanding energy flows/analysis in design and construction.
