About Marilynn Knoch

After obtaining her Diploma of Applied Arts in Journalism from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Marilynn worked as a reporter, editor and columnist with two publications. From there she moved into corporate communications. She supplemented her journalism education with courses in political science and organizational sociology. Her first PR position was at the Calgary Board of Education. After six years she went on her own securing long-term contracts with such companies as Pacific Western Airlines/Canadian Airlines and occasionally with the Alberta government’s public affairs bureau including serving as the communications manager during the final year of planning in 1987 and during the 1988 Winter Olympics.Prior to working as an independent contractor in BC, Marilynn was Manager of Corporate Relations for Westmin Resources which included lobbying for the oil and gas industry in Alberta/Saskatchewan and the mining industry in BC. When the oil and gas assets were sold to a sister company, Marilynn transferred to Vancouver.In BC, Marilynn did long term contracts with Hill and Knowlton, the Greater Vancouver Real Estate Board and Langara College among others. In her 75% position as Executive Director for BCPIA, she managed the association and advocated for the industry. As a retirement project, Marilynn is developing two websites: print-advocate.com and .org and The-Independent-Advocate.com.Journalism - Marilynn has significant experience in journalism. During her career, she developed and managed four magazines: FlightLines and Wingtips (Pacific Western/Canadian Airlines), PetroNugget (Westmin Resources) and PressLines. She also wrote the scripts and served as Executive Producer on four half-hour documentaries aired on CFCN TV Calgary and two 20-minute corporate videos.Marilynn has significant experience in media relations including the handling of two labour disputes. She has also taught business communications at Langara College CS.
