My name is Marilyn Rivas and I recently graduated WCU with my BSN. I currently volunteered at Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance (PLCM-T)Emergency Department. I volunteered at this facility for 5 years learning and building on my interpersonal therapeutic communication skills. I was known for training new or returning volunteers while ensuring patients, healthcare providers, guest, and volunteers had an inclusive and safe experience. I am passionate about advocating for vulnerable populations and because I fluently speak Spanish I make an effort to round on patients who only speak Spanish so they have a more inclusive experience during their hospital stay. I believe advocating is an essential skill, that I have acquired while volunteering at PLCM-T, and it is extremely important to have as a Registered Nurse to be able to implement safe quality patient-centered care for each of my patients.
