Senior Engineer - Laboratory Operations/Receiving Inspection
Continued the Receiving Inspection Laboratory process where all certificates and test results are reviewed against applicable drawings and specifications. All raw stock material such as: Bar, Tube, Plate, or Ingot were inspected. I also inspect all castings and forgings per internal drawings or to AMS specifications for acceptance. Fasteners are also inspected both Rocketdyne designed and standard parts (AN, AS, NAS, AA, NASM) per applicable procurement and material specifications (AMS, AS, SAE, ASTM, MIL, FF, NAS, NASM, QQ) This position is responsible for reviewing all incoming material purchased for use on production hardware. I have the ability to work closely with our suppliers to ensure all requirements are met and along with schedule needs. I have consistently averaged a Market Feedback Analysis rating of 6.9 with my internal customers and a 6.5 with my external customers.I have started to train in the metallurgical laboratory to learn how to cut, mount, and polish submitted specimens to that lab. I also learned how to perform micro-polishing and take replicas on actual hardware under engineering instructions.

This includes both metallic and non-metallic materials procured and to be used on flight hardware. All raw stock material such as: Bar, Tube, Plate, or Ingot were inspected. I have consistently averaged a Market Feedback Analysis rating of 6.9 with my internal customers and a 6.5 with my external customers.Worked closely with the development of the Chemical Management system where Rocketdyne implemented a Just-in-Time (JIT) system. Participated in benchmarking trips to other Pratt & Whitney sties to see and measure how their JIT system worked. Responsible for receiving the inspected non-metallic materials and check all labels, certifications, test results and packaging for conformance to acceptance requirements. Also worked closely with Rocketdyne's internal Laboratory to submit materials for physical testing and obtain estimated turn around time. I developed along with our IT organization an oracle based "Receiving Inspection Database". This database tied in with Engineer designated test requirements and recorded meaningful data for a) procurement, b) quality, c) materials engineering, and d) accounting. The database had the capability to auto generate metrics and lab reports issued for lab completion.
Member Of The Technical Staff
I had transitioned into the Receiving Inspection Laboratory process to learn the Materials Engineering aspect of the Receiving Inspection Process. I learned how to look up drawings and specifications on the Information Handling System (IHS) for drawings and specifications for both metallic and non-metallic materials, procurement specifications, test methods and standards.
Member Of The Technical Staff
Very strong understanding of adhesives, ablatives, foam insulation, polyurethanes, tapes and some composites and under what conditions do each material perform, know the material's limitations and which test should be performed to present the most meaningful data for the application. I performed all Receiving Inspection verification testing on the time & temperature sensitive material to both internal and industry specifications (MIL, ASTM, FED-STD, NASA, & MSFC-SPEC) as well as recertification and age surveillance testing. I also participated in R&D work as well assisting engineers with various applications from adhering ablative material to a metal substrate to developing a Kevlar reinforced insulation system. Created an Access database to record test results and generate reports to my internal customers. This database allowed engineers to capture material performance based on lot# and test. They could determine if shelf life should be extended or decreased from test results.
Chemistry And Non-Metallics Laboratory Technician
I started in Rocketdyne's Plastic's Lab as a summer intern and continued as a co-op during college after graduating accepted a full-time position in the Chemistry & Non-Metallics Laboratory. I gained a strong understanding of adhesives, ablatives, foam insulation, polyurethanes, tapes and some composites. I performed all Receiving Inspection verification testing on the time & temperature sensitive material to both internal and industry specifications (MIL, ASTM, FED-STD, NASA, & MSFC-SPEC). I also participated in R&D work as well assisting engineers with various applications from adhering ablative material to a metal substrate to developing a Kevlar reinforced insulation system.
