Armed with a Diploma in Hotel Management from Les Roches, Switzerland, I launched my professional life in the hotel and tourism industry in Tsavo East National Park, a protected area in Kenya, where I co-managed two safari tented camps. My ensuing experience with the Maasai community in the Shompole Conservancy propelled my interest towards conservation actions that prioritise the critical role of communities as custodians of biodiversity.In 2002, I returned to my hometown in Sabah, Malaysia and engaged with local communities through a collaborative project aimed at enhancing rural women entrepreneurs. Since gaining my Marketing and Public Relations Degree from Curtin University, Western Australia in 2007, I have focused my career primarily on communications within nonprofit settings, ranging from small, locally-based organisations to global establishments, applying my hospitality knowledge in sustainable tourism-related initiatives.During my decade-long tenure with the Global Diversity Foundation (GDF), I supported programme teams in Malaysia, Mexico and Morocco by enhancing the importance of biocultural diversity preservation initiatives. As GDF's global endeavours became more strongly rooted in the Global Environments Network, a significant portion of my efforts shifted towards supporting this network of environmental changemakers.
