Project: Quantifying Insertion Efficiency, Permeability and Stability of Aquaporin Proteins in Lipid and Synthetic MembranesDescription: This project has three main objectives: (1) to quantify aquaporin protein insertion into lipid and polymer vesicles by developing a method to measure insertion using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, (2) to evaluate the relationship between insertion and water permeability, and (3) to assess the stability of the hybrid protein-synthetic system under relevant conditions with varying amount of aquaporins inserted.

Project: Design of an Appropriate Technology for Threshing of Pearl Millet Description: This collaboration took place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My research team included students and professors from four countries and three continents. The objective of the project was to develop an appropriate technology for women in the developing world to thresh pearl millet, a stable grain for subsistence farmers. Our design used multiple bicycles, bike parts and other scrap materials and is being tested in Mali.
