Network Implementations EngineerSaic Jul 2007 - Apr 2013Scott Afb, IlFulfill service requests by coordinating with counterparts in other Operational Theaters, DISN networks/technologies, commercial vendors and customers in designing and implementing Trans-global circuits which enabled War fighters to perform their critical missions and US Government Officials to perform their missions and functions, globally. As a focal point for activation and deactivation of network circuitry, I review documentation and databases for accuracy and correct any errors to ensure effective configuration management. As an Implementer I am sought as a subject matter expert (SME) for configurations of equipment to assist in restoring services and troubleshooting network issues. I also provide technical assistance to customers in activating their circuits. Change Management responsibilities include coordinating upgrades, rehomes, and route changes within the DISN to support customer requirements. -
Network EngineerSaic Sep 2006 - Jul 2007Scott Afb, IlPerformed code upgrades to various DISN ATM System (DATMS) equipment to keep system configurations current against the authorized baseline. Reviewed daily backups of network devices, resolved any issues, and then manually backed up configurations. These backups were the fail safe for any catastrophic failure of network equipment. Monitored and corrected timing issues to resolve degradation of network elements. Troubleshot and resolved escalated tickets which Incident Management personnel were unable to resolve. Often collaborated with customers and their support technicians/engineers to resolve site configuration or wiring issues, and worked with commercial telecommunications vendors to resolve network backbone trunk issues. Assisted engineers of other networks/technologies to resolve their network issues. Provided recommendations on operational and troubleshooting procedures, network designs, equipment acceptance to support Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in performing their mission of providing reliable telecommunications globally which in turn supported the Warfighter, other U.S. Agencies and NATO to perform their missions. Documented inventory of existing legacy edge devices and circuitry, completed appropriate analysis, and provided recommendations to move the circuits in order to remove “End of Life” equipment from the network. -
Atm Operations Engineer/Assistant Network Operations Center (Noc) SupervisorSaic Sep 2005 - Sep 2006Scott Afb, IlAs an Operations Engineer in Incident Management, I was the Operations SME for the world’s largest private ATM network. I provided network controllers with general information about the network, and I helped them resolve incidents when they struggled. I supported the NOC supervisor and in their absence assumed those duties. Assisted in creation of a training plan and assisted Shift Leads in training controllers. Developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and provided input on SOPs created by others. Tested new network applications/tools and provided input on feasibility of using the applications in support of network operations. Provided input where those applications could be improved. Created drawings of circuits and networks to assist controllers and engineers in troubleshooting. In preparation for disasters I was sought to provide possible impact in target areas where they could be predicted. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I collected information on what assets were lost and their impact on the DISN and customer missions, locally and globally. I then coordinated prioritization restoral of circuitry and alternate routing of critical services. -
