I started this position with Intern responsibilities. I typically spent my days documenting things, walking with inspections, and learning under our assistant-superintendent, but a chain of events led to the exterior superintendent leaving and his roles were given to me. In this position I was introduced to the commercial side of construction after having unofficially worked in it earlier in my career from the residential side. I learned the work flow of big commercial job sites, how to cut/hang drywall, and how to frame. Drywall wasn’t my strongest point, but I excelled in framing. My ability to read drawings, interpret details and bilingualism launched me into a preferable position when compared to other journeymen which is why I quickly found myself helping lead 4-7 workers in a framing, backing and trade damage operation.
