Manages a staff of litigation auditors, providing litigation expense control services to three strategic business units, to ensure productivity and related financial results are achieved. Manages Legal Strategic Services (LSS) guidelines and protocol compliance related to law firm invoice review and on-site audit activities for an LSS office. Coordinates with other LSS areas related to law firm management strategy. Ensures optimization of resources for invoice review to meet all service level requirements. Coordinates all related large account customization processes as needed, for compliance with Liberty Mutual guidelines. Ensures standards and appeals are handled consistently. Manages and maintains databases which report production and compliance results.

Leads on-site law firm audits as well as directs, manages and determines the level and degree of auditing and review activity necessary for Liberty Mutual Group defense firms. Manages, directs and oversees the examination of law firms' legal files, accounting, financial/billing records, etc., to ensure compliance with Liberty Mutual Insurance guidelines and litigation management protocols.

As in-house counsel with the primary litigation group at Liberty Mutual Group, Mario Cava represented insureds under the carrier's duty to defend and provided legal advice to the company, its subsidiaries and claims partners. His responsibilities included case management for a wide range of civil and commercial litigation matters, from property damage and diminished value claims, to auto accident injury claims, to premises liability disputes. He achieved positive results for his clients through an extensive motions practice, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
