A Mechanical Engineer experienced in 2D and 3D modeling, structural analysis and delivering technical direction to design teams. I am passionate about honing my skills and find practical ways to apply them in my own life, so I can better curate my life to my desires. Growing up in a family of mechanics, I was around creative people who built sub 10 second drag racers with a combination of self-fabricated parts and recycled components from other cars. The curiosity that grew from those early experiences pushed me to explore robotics and engineering principles throughout high school. I eventually went on to study mechanical engineering, to understand the intricacies of real-world engineering and learn how I can build my own 10 second rust buckets amongst other devices. Throughout college I was fortunate enough to be a part of teams that allowed me to showcase my proficiency in design. As a member of our Formula FSAE team I worked on developing the brakes and driveline of one of our lightest cars to date. In our startup incubator I conducted development of an energy recovery system to recover the kinetic energy lost from drag. My proudest accomplishment was my capstone project, where I received acclaim from a pioneer of the Coke Freestyle Machine for design of a vending machine that served powdered supplements and shakes to gym-goers and athletes in under 2 minutes.I currently work as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Northrop Grumman, where I am responsible for the design and development of safety hardware for one of our biggest programs to date. In the short time I have been here, I have designed hardware to meet military and customer specifications, used DFM practices to ensure ease of manufacturability implementing MATLAB to shorten our product installation workflow, and serving as a mentor for my intern this summer to understand DFM practices and presentation skills.Outside of my career, I am a podcaster advocating for men's self-development, a novice boxer, tennis player, and am finishing up building a V8-equipped Volvo 240.I'm always excited to have conversations about emerging technologies in transportation (especially cars), leadership, and product development, so feel free to reach out.If you have any questions feel free to contact me via email: reidmario5@gmail.com
