Lead ArtistDas Clarks Apr 2021 - PresentNewport, Wales, United KingdomI designed and delivered a series of creative workshops for residents and staff at HMP Parc. Working in collaboration with Gareth Clark and a team of 5 artists we delivered sessions in person, within 2 different locations. Supported by the wing managers and HMP staff, I delivered a foundation phase with Gareth Clark (Director, Das Clarks) and specialised painting sessions which focused on experimentation and confidence building. The project celebrated participants achievements by an on-site award ceremony, a visitors' centre exhibition and an outside exhibition at The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre in Newport. A book was created to celebrate and record the project. I was invited to speak at the New Starts Prison Arts Symposium held in Liverpool Hope University on September 28th 2023.More information about the project: https://artsincriminaljustice.org.uk/creating-roots-for-well-being-through-art/Read my guest blog here: https://artsincriminaljustice.org.uk/marion-cheung-freedom-and-constraint/

Creative Practitioner, Freelance ArtistCreative Lives Oct 2021 - Apr 2023Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom'Unearthing Creativity' is a collaborative project, supported by Arts Council of Wales (part of the Connect & Flourish programme) in partnership with Creative Lives. The project runs from September 2021 until March 2023. Through engaging people who are currently creatively inactive, and by surfacing and celebrating the diverse but under-recognised creative activities that take place in communities across Wales, our intention is that more people from under-represented groups will be engaging in the arts; and that there is a greater recognition of the diversity of existing creative activities in communities across Wales. -

Freelance ArtistCardiff And Vale University Health Board Sep 2018 - Sep 2019Cardiff, United KingdomIn 2018, I worked with Specialist Neuro-rehabilitation ward 7 at Rookwood Hospital, my project idea called 'Touch a Flower, Talk to Me' involved delivering weekly workshops in the hospital day room to support patients' recovery and rehabilitation goals. Together we made a wall hanging for the day room and an interactive display of 'talking flowers' for an exhibition at Llandough Hospital. I spoke to as many different NHS staff as I could who worked on ward 7 that wanted to take part. Listening to their stories was a humbling and fascinating experience. When the flowers are touched, visitors to the exhibition can hear the staff talking about their work. One of the staff even recorded the birdsong from the hospital grounds at 5am!28 Year 6 pupils at Peter Lea Primary School also worked with me to create the interactive pieces, learning the digital skills required to make it work. This project was commissioned by the Arts Charity within Cardiff and Vale University Hospital and was independently funded. It was commissioned to support the transition of services from Rookwood Hospital to University Hospital, Llandough in 2021. The launch exhibition took place in September 2019 and there will be another exhibition date TBC in 2021. There will be an exhibition book available together with interview transcriptions. Visitor's comments, 20th September 2019: "What a beautiful exhibition of joy, colour, memories, and history. The flowers and wall-hanging express so much of the joy and warmth that so many people feel towards Rookwood and the recordings transport you there (or anywhere you want). Looking at the flowers doesn't make you think you're in a hospital and the fact that you can actually touch and interact with the flowers helps that. Interactive, participatory arts for health at its best! Amazing work with an important process for many and beautiful, memorable outcomes". -
Project Coordinator/Lead ArtistCommunity House Eton Road Oct 2016 - Sep 2018Newport, South WalesI was the project co-ordinator of a 2 year Heritage Lottery Funded project: 'A Thousand Voices' about the history and story of Community House Eton Road. I recruited and managed a team of 35 volunteers, attracting student volunteers from the fields of Journalism, History, Art therapy, Fine Art, Film and Media and also members of the community. Recruiting the team was an enjoyable process - networking and organising 30 promotional events. We partnered with The People's Collection of Wales, Fusion Project, Gwent Archives, Newport Museum and National Museums Wales. Twenty-five volunteers were trained in oral history, sound editing and ethics. I have also delivered training to groups of volunteers.Working with Sue Mizon, (Education consultant and Project Director) and our volunteers, we engaged 150 Primary school pupils from 3 local schools in heritage and oral history workshops. The Arts and Education Network South East Wales provided additional training opportunities which were particularly relevant to me - The Secret Life of Objects (Karin Molson), Experimental drawing with Bedwyr Williams, Marega Palser and Anna Barratt and Bare conductive technology (Martijn Gommerem, FabLab).During the second year, started the process to digitally archive the collection of photographic and physical artefacts to create an exhibition, upload to People's Collection Wales and collaborated with overandover.london to create a digital story app. We worked with award-winning writers Rufus Mufasa and Valerie Bloom with KS2 pupils to create written and artistic responses to personal heritage. I led art workshops with pupils to make interactive poems and co-ordinated the exhibitions and our end of project event.I am also a trained 'Digital Inclusion Practitioner' working with community groups based at Community House and have recently completed an accredited course 'Managing Volunteers.'
