An award-winning architect and author who specialises in low energy design and retrofit, I have designed and delivered many large scale, complex projects. With sector experience that spans the whole spectrum of housing, from prime to affordable, as well as significant office projects. My work on existing buildings often involves the re-imagining and retrofit of sites for new uses and new places. Passionate and authoritative on building fabric, energy use and net zero carbon design, I approach sustainability with a pioneering attitude. My book ‘Residential Retrofits: 20 case studies’ is described as ‘an invaluable text for those working in residential retrofit’. I am frequently invited to speak about retrofit at industry events and universities. It is in this role that I seeks to inspire and empower others to become the next construction industry leaders. I am a long standing NLA Net Zero Expert panel member, board director of the Passivhaus Trust and an architecture awards judge for the AJ and Architecture Today.Key projects include the recently completed, contemporary and sensitive upgrade of the iconic Art Deco building Eighty Strand (formerly Shell Mex House); the award winning Princedale Road which was the first certified Passivhaus retrofit in the UK; New townhouses of utmost robustness and craftsmanship quality at Chelsea Barracks where also on the same site, I led the restoration of The Garrison Chapel. Current projects include a deep retrofit, net zero, strategic piece for a block on London East Village (Olympic Park); a net zero refurbishment project of a period building in Mayfair to meet LETI retrofit guidelines; the 10 year revisit of 10 case studies from my book in collaboration with CIBSE.
