Currently providing legal services to a variety of nonprofits, trade associations, political organizations (including The Lincoln Project as lead legal counsel) and healthcare companies (eg COVIDCheck Colorado) through my law firm, KBN Law, LLC.Beyond my primary employment, I write a regular column for the the Colorado Sun focused on courts, the legal and criminal justice systems, public policy, the healthcare industry, and the myriad of issues surrounding each. I also guest/substitute teach middle and high school in JeffCo and teach an MBA-level course in negotiations at Univ. of Colorado Denver.Over the course of my career, I have advised many nonprofits, provided guidance on regulatory issues and legislation, and helped to negotiate complex corporate agreements. I also have a background in litigation. I briefed, argued, and won appellate cases before courts at all levels. Most notably, I argued and won several cases before the Colorado Supreme Court, including a unanimous opinion in Colorado Ethics Watch v. Senate Majority Fund, a seminal ruling in election law and free speech.I served on the 2011 Colorado Reapportionment Commission, received an inaugural Out Front Power Award for my equal rights advocacy, and worked as a senior staff member for a presidential campaign. I am an active Kiwanian, Make-A-Wish wish granter, and former member of the 1st J.D. CLE Committee. I am a 1997 Boettcher Scholar and a "Triple Buff" attending the Univ. of Colorado for undergrad, law school, and my MBA.
