About Marisa Ban

I am a 4th year student at DePaul University studying computer science with a concentration in software development set to graduate in November 2024. My first two years of college were completed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I studied Agricultural and Biological Engineering until I transferred to DePaul in 2022 to pursue computer science. At both DePaul and the University of Illinois I've achieved the Dean's List every semester of school. I'm passionate about learning and love researching new subjects.At the University of Illinois I was involved in Engineers Without Borders UIUC as the Director of Fundraising and later as the Internal Vice President. At DePaul I'm involved primarily with the Computer Science Society as the Director of Social Media. Outside of school and work I enjoy reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time with my family.

Conducted a spatial and temporal analysis of the Sandusky Watershed in Ohio in order to predict how the topography, streamflow, moisture content, and precipitation, among other things, may effect the phosphorous runoff in the region. I accomplished the analysis by downloading data from various government websites, cleaning the data sets, and then using them in ArcGIS in order to visually represent the data through maps. I also utilized Matlab to calculate stream flow, precipitation, potential evaporation, and phosphorus runoff, and compared these values in order to complete the temporal analysis. I concluded that the Sandusky Watershed would likely require mitigation tactics that target farmland and the use of fertilizer due to the overwhelming amount of cropland in the region. The results of my research were presented at the 2021 Undergraduate Research Symposium at the University of Illinois.
