I am currently a waitress at JJ's Dockside, which is a restaurant connected to the Country Inn & Suites and the Sanford Event Center in Bemidji, Minnesota. Working as a server requires you to exercise daily communication and team work skills, multitasking skills, money handling and customer service skills

This student worker position involves students every day with the assigning and re-assigning of all of the work orders on campus. Faculty & Staff submit requests to our office through SchoolDude (a program used for faculty & staff to submit work requests to the physical plant staff), and from there we as students have to assign the work order to the correct worker. In addition, we work closely with the Key system for our campus, including both brass keys and our Keyless Access system. Other various tasks, such as document handling, logging personnel documents while exercising confidentiality, and day to day office maintenance tasks.

As a Student Ambassador, I work directly under the supervision of Chelsey Crotty, an Admissions Representative for BSU. In this office, I complete various tasks such as entering prospecting student information into our data system, texting answers to questions from prospecting students or incoming freshman via the Admissions Cell Phone, and making sure that students transition from High School to BSU goes as smoothly as possible. In this position, Student Ambassadors are also required to have extensive knowledge of our campus, in order to give the most beneficial tour as possible. In addition to all of these responsibilities, our office also plays a huge role in events on campus, such as freshman orientation, large-group tours offered on the weekends, and helping transfer students transition to our school.

In this position, Student Workers are responsible for the transition of documents from the person whose signature is required, to the department/office that it needs to go to next. As a student worker in this position you are in direct contact with the President of the University, the Dean's of Academic & Student Affairs, and their executive assistants. Students in this position are required to follow a code of ethics that involves keeping classified information to ourselves. We work with the student emergency system on campus that helps the student's obtain a pass for class in the case of a family or student emergency. Students also help with the set up of events on campus where the Dean's and/or the President are going to be present. Various office tasks are also included.

Caliber Kennels Pet Service is a clean, well kept and healthy facility that sells happy puppies to loving families. In this position, the worker is a general farmhand that completes various tasks to keep the facility up to par. This includes feeding, watering and daily cleaning of every dog's living space. In addition to that, workers may be put to mowing the airing yards, exercising the dogs, or running errands for the facility. This position was critical in my skills development, as it was my first job. For the first time, I had a taste of what was all involved in customer service, I had to learn major time management skills, and in general how to be a hard worker. The most valuable thing that I took away from this position was obtaining skills in attention to detail. Above all, my employer was a huge influence on my work ethic in general, and is an amazing example of someone with true Grit.
