I organized two blood drives with the local Bay Area nonprofit Vitalant. Although my most recent drive was canceled due to COVID-19, working with Vitalant, has allowed me to coordinate drives that have saved 250~ lives. My role consisted of advertising through social media, posters, and word-of-mouth. I needed to be able to openly communicate to educators, staff members, and students regarding how the drive was structured, how it worked, and exactly how it would benefit those in dire need of lifesaving blood. I was also in charge of organizing the drive appointments, deciding how to schedule student appointments, and decorating the event venue. I was able to, with the help of the district coordinator (Steven Pignataro), create an event that brought students and staff members together and allowed them to make a lasting impact on the Bay Area community.

Peer Court is a restorative justice program established in American Canyon and Napa that provides minors who've committed misdemeanors a second chance at a clean record. I've volunteered time to every role in peer court. While I've served as bailiff and a jury member multiple times, I've dedicated most of my time as a respondent-attorney. This role entailed spending a large amount of time getting to know multiple respondents, their stories, working through their situations, ensuring they're taking full responsibility, and preparing them for the hearing. With every case, I present my most empathetic self, so that when they're on the stand, they feel relaxed, calm, and safe. More recently, I've dedicated my time to being a mentor to high school students who are serving as peer attorneys and revising their casework.

I worked as a canvasser for Mariam Aboudamous's campaign at the beginning of the year, and more recently, this fall (2020). Through collaborating with her on her amazing campaign to run for a spot on the Board of Supervisors, I was—and am—able to learn more about the impact of local government in Napa County. We canvass house-to-house every weekend to inform citizens in my city of her objectives and the importance of voting locally.

As a barista, I am assiduous in engaging with customers of various ages and backgrounds. I am creating and strengthening my relationships with our customers on a weekly basis and have learned how to deal with various difficult, foreign social situations. Problem-solving is a must in customer service, but also in collaborating with a team of partners (coworkers). From learning how to take constructive criticism to implementing it myself, I am actively reinforcing my communication skills.

My collaboration with UNICEF has involved meshing the organization's mission with my community. Our collaborative club at our high school had the sole mission of advocating and informing peers of the daily struggles and realities of impoverished children in developing countries along with fundraising money that was directly donated to UNICEF - $3,125. In addition to our outreach within our campus, we branched out to the local Boy's & Girl's Club in order to educate fourth and fifth graders on these challenges that millions of children face. Our goal was to then create community-wide events that open this information to our city as a whole. Creating a generation of children who are not just culturally but globally aware of the issues children face is the key to seeing real change and drive behind the abolition of injustice.

I worked with the wonderful, powerful women behind Napa's Women's March as an event planner, writer, and advertiser. As a planner, I had the luxury of getting to voice my opinions on crucial aspects of the march (i.e. singers, performers, chants, role distribution, etc.) On the day of the march, I led the chants on the megaphone, guided the public to the main stage, and helped with the fundraising during the speeches and performances. Additionally, I wrote multiple pieces surrounding issues such as climate change and education. As an advertiser, I attended local political events to share information on the Women's March and networked with local politicians such as Congressman Mike Thompson.

In conjunction with my involvement with UNICEF, my team and I worked to develop an effective, well-structured curriculum to educate fourth and fifth graders at the Boys and Girls Club clubhouse in our city. After the creation of our 6-week long program that introduces education on a wide variety of global issues that children face, we then dedicated our Fridays to teach the kids in a meaningful way while inviting our high school peers to join in on the experience. We engaged in several emotional, yet enlightening conversations surrounding their reaction to this new knowledge and truly left an impact on the clubhouse and the kids.

AYANA is an NGO that has entirely recreated the idea of humanitarian work. Instead of simply donating money through an organization in hopes of aiding the less fortunate, this organization seeks to challenge individuals in developing communities through a program that asks to identify the problem(s) within their community and create projects that can solve the issue(s). The aim of the program is to address the root of the problem in order to create sustainable, long-lasting changes. My role in this organization, along with a few other volunteers, is to digitize the Youth Innovation Lab (YIL) which essentially delivers this program's guidance and education to individuals in developing countries.

This internship challenged me to learn how to gather leadership and management skills—through professional workshops—in order to effectively manage several different teens, promote social media, and create a teen-led event. Through it, gathered a bundle of different connections and transferable abilities that I apply to my everyday life and as I deal with different groups and individuals.
