"Global Citizen." This was a term that I started to hear in high school, and as I began my graduate and postgraduate education it seemed to become a title to aim for. I didn't understand why someone would want to become a "Global Citizen" at first before I left the US, but as I started to experience the world for myself, I realized that this title had some credence to it. It meant connecting with people different from myself. It meant learning about cultures I had never heard of before. It meant learning languages that I had never considered learning before in order to connect to others more authentically. Once I graduated from the American University of Paris and began working in places like India, I realized what an honor it is to be considered a "Global Citizen". It means building a diverse community, it means putting yourself out of your comfort zone, it means working through personal biases and differences you didn't know were there before, and it means putting others needs above your own. Its a term to be proud of. I am proud to call myself a Global Citizen, and my professional goal is to help others become Global Citizens as well. Through my experience abroad, some of the skills that I have cultivated include:• Ability to think outside the box • Effective cross-cultural communication skills• Resourcefulness and adaptability in complex environments • Thrives under pressure '• Passionate about the people I am there to serve I love building an authentic, inspiring and diverse community, and I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside those who value that same sense of community as well.
