About Marissa Dulaney

I love creating all-encompassing experiences people love and that touch their personal lives in a real and meaningful way.I believe that great products have great user experiences, and I believe you can't have one without the other. In fact, I believe there is a continuum of skills that go into creating a great product, and I find my niche in overlapping what is traditionally considered three disciplines - design, research/insights, and product management. As such, I embrace the full spectrum necessary for a successful product – from deep understanding of the customer and their perspective of the product, to the overall idea that is going to grab the user’s attention and meet their needs, to the details that if not met will break the experience, to the final realization of the finished product that drives the business. I specialize in understanding complex ecosystems of products, envisioning new concept designs, identifying strategies for success, analyzing customer insights, and leading cross-functional teams. I have worked with a variety of users and technologies, including consumer tech, marketplaces, enterprise, fintech, and b2b.Most recently as the CXO of Acorns, I looked after the financial best interests of the up-and-coming. I ensured our end-to-end financial wellness system meets the experience standards new investors deserve, regardless of income, by leading the product design, research & insights, and customer support teams, and GM-ing our core Experience and Engagement team of product managers and engineers. As SVP of User Experience at Shipt, I created a world class design, research, and insights team to expand economic opportunities and improve people’s quality of life. At ApartmentList, I headed up product and design in an effort to create more effective and enjoyable experiences for finding and renting apartments. At LinkedIn, I focused on conceptualizing and refining features and new products that meet the professional users’ desire for engaging, useful, and pleasurable experiences, and the business's revenue and monetization goals. Before that, at Adobe Systems, I was a designer and manager who shipped over a dozen products in 80% of the business units, including business, creative professional, and consumer products.Specialties: Product Conceptualization, User Goals and Workflows, Social Networks, Balancing User and Business Goals, Web Design, Software Design, Product Engagement Analytics, CX, Experience & Customer Insights, Voice of the Customer (VoC), Qualitative and Quantitative Research

  • Shipt
Senior Vice President, Design, Research, And Experience Insights
    Shipt Mar 2020 - May 2022
    Birmingham, Al, Us
Shipt provides a trustworthy and personalized local delivery service that shops the way you would. Our shoppers save our members time, and provide an essential service to those who cannot shop on their own. We connect the local community - retailers, customers, and gig workers - with a particular focus on the high-touch grocery space. My team and I were responsible for imagining the best experience for our users, and inspiring the company to build it. To do that, I pulled together User Experience Design, User Research, and Experience Insights into a cohesive customer-centered organization to influence decisions from C-suite company priorities to individual contributor feature development. We: - ensured the company truly understood our customers and how they experience Shipt (qualitative research, ethnography, Voice of the Customer program, CX insights, market and competitive research, and industry insights) - drove improvement of the customer experience (business partner in company strategy and roadmap development, envisioning opportunities to differentiate, and creating the on- and off-line UX for our customers).- partnered collaboratively and respectfully across the broader organization, ensuring a positive working environment, and ultimately creating a successful service our users love.
  • Shipt
Senior Vice President Product Design And User Research
    Shipt Nov 2018 - May 2022
    Birmingham, Al, Us
Providing economic opportunity, community, and a better quality of life. Shipt is more than grocery delivery. We focus heavily on improving the lives of our members and shoppers. For members, we offer assistance with a weekly chore that ranges from a nuisance (another thing on a busy schedule) to incredibly difficult (loading 3 screaming kids in a car, or shopping with a physical disability). For our shoppers we offer a flexible work opportunity that also includes fair pay, meaningful impact, and a community. I head the Product Design and User Research team, which is critical to setting our product strategy, ensuring a great end to end experience with our service, and realizing the company's vision. We are hiring! Reach out to learn more.
  • Apartment List
Vp, Head Of User Experience & Product
    Apartment List Mar 2014 - Apr 2018
    San Francisco, California, Us
Finding and renting an apartment is usually a frustrating (at best) experience. But it's not with Apartment List.As a member of the executive team at Apartment List, I led the product and design teams, working closely with all disciplines at the company, to create an extraordinary rental experience... and an extraordinary company. When asked "would you recommend Apartment List to a friend?" Gary, one of our renter users, gave us a 10/10, saying "Because there is no 11." We were also a top ranked apartment app in the Apple App and Android Play Stores - averaging a 4.8 star rating - during my tenure.I live for positive feedback like that from users, up and to the right graphs, and stellar "employee pulse survey" results.
  • Linkedin
    Principal Experience Designer
    Linkedin Sep 2009 - Feb 2014
    Sunnyvale, Ca, Us
Focused on strategic and detailed design for a variety of LinkedIn experiences across mobile and web, leading a team of designers as we transform LinkedIn from a place to store one's resume to a daily resource for professional insights and relationship building throughout one's career. In addition to the design "givens" of wireframing, mockups, and workflows, this also involves product strategy, balancing monetization and business goals, problem assessment and framing, user identification, managing a team of designers, working collaboratively with product management, development, and analytics, and presenting often to senior management. Other projects while at LinkedIn have included new products, subscriptions, social and viral interactions, data presentation, and email communications. • Adobe Systems
    Design Manager
    Adobe Systems Aug 2001 - Aug 2009
    San Jose, Ca, Us
Progressed from UX Designer to Senior/Lead Designer to Design Manager. Responsibilities include setting the overall design direction for ecosystems of products, leading a team of interdisciplinary designers to implement that vision, partnering with key stakeholders to ensure the user experience aligns with and impacts the business goals, and coming up with company-wide concepts for new products and solutions. Here I shipped over a dozen products in 80% of the business units, including business, creative professional, and consumer products.
