I’m a freelance writer and editor based in Brooklyn. Right now, I’m also a contributing editor at Pitchfork and the newsletter editor for The Conversationalist.As a writer, I mostly cover popular culture, music, and books. I’ve recently written profiles, interviews, and criticism for places like The New York Times, NPR Music, Pitchfork, and The Creative Independent, among others. You can read samples of my work at marissalorusso.com.From 2016 – 2023 I worked for NPR Music, where I wrote and edited features for the site, produced the weekly NPR Music newsletter, and helped run ambitious editorial projects. My bylined work includes interviews with artists, album and song reviews, reported features, and essays. I’ve appeared on podcasts including All Songs Considered and Pop Culture Happy Hour, have welcomed artists to the Tiny Desk, and have spoken at the MoPOP Pop Conference. Previously, I worked on NPR's Events team, managing the annual Tiny Desk Contest.I'm from New England, currently live in Brooklyn, and spent several years in Washington, D.C. I received a Master's degree in International and Intercultural Communication from American University and a Bachelor's degree from Vassar College in anthropology.
