Creating traditional Byzantine-style icons with egg tempera since 2019. I mix the egg base from scratch and source colored pigments naturally when able for the egg tempera paint used to create the traditional Byzantine-style icons. Each icon takes roughly 40+ hours to complete over a 4-6month time span plus time for the paint to dry and cure on top of that.The richness of the icons is achieved by mixing egg tempera with natural pigments and draws from traditional Byzantine-style techniques such as horizontal floating.Each icon is the culmination of consistent prayer, practice and patience. The rich depth of color and light in each icon is poised between ethereal peace and heavenly joy, and is meant to draw the viewer to prayer and closer to God. "When we allow ourselves to rest and become refreshed, we can find our inspirational spark.
