Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) is an elective curriculum you take along with your required college classes. It gives you the tools, training, and experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment. Along with great leadership training, Army ROTC can pay for your college tuition. Because Army ROTC is an elective, you can participate your freshman and sophomore years without any obligation to join the Army. You will have a normal college student experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you will be commissioned as an Officer in the Army. At that point, you will have a wide range of interest areas you can specialize in called branches. Presently, the Three Rivers Battalion consists of 175 cadets and 12 cadre at the University of Pittsburgh and its partner universities. The goal of the battalion remains unchanged: produce the best quality scholar athlete leaders for the U.S. Army. Quartermaster Officers are responsible for making sure equipment, materials and systems are available and functioning for missions. More specifically, the Quartermaster Officer provides supply support for Soldiers and units in field services, aerial delivery and material and distribution management. Officers are leaders, and being a leader in the Army requires certain qualities such as self-discipline, initiative, confidence and intelligence.The Three Rivers Battalion is headquartered at the University of Pittsburgh. The Swiss farmhouse at Roselea Farm was designed by the architectural firm of MacClure and Spahr and built in 1905 as a summer home. In 2003, Nancy and Richard Mills inherited Roselea Farm from Nancy’s parents, the Pattons, and have been restoring the grounds, gardens, exteriors and interiors of the main house, the farmers cottage, the tower house, and the large barn.All of the gardens were built or expanded within the past eight years, and several were added this year. The formal garden maintains the original structure and contains perennials and annuals for accent and color.In 2004, The Mills added a herd of goats, a donkey, and a third barn. In addition, a commercial greenhouse was constructed and is now open to the public.2007 was a banner year for Roselea; the historic barn was renovated and restored to its original grandeur. The main level horse stalls were converted into a kitchen and a powder room. The main room became a living room with exposed beams and a loft. The garage was transformed into a recreation area for dancing and entertainment.In addition, the farmer's cottage has become a B&B. The gardens reflect the era in which they were built, and the interiors are quaint and welcoming.I am a socially and environmentally conscious person who is a strong communicator and demonstrates a positive attitude, flexibility, enthusiasm and have a passion for helping others and the community.
