In 2018, I graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Industrial Design. During my time at Tech, I won three awards in my field, participated in cross-functional projects, was an active leader in my community, and continued to foster my love of all things creative by means of freelance and contract projects.Post grad, I let my multi-skilled wings soar as I worked in and out of the design industry in parallel to pursuing a passion in coffee. I have run the gambit with different clients and can tell you stories about the good, the bad, and the ugly, and everything I learned in between. The biggest discovery I've had in working service while working with clients is: Coffee and Design aren't all that different. What I mean by this is two fold. I fell in love with working in coffee because of how human centric, empathetic, systematic, creative, and iterative it is. Shop operations have countless touchpoints, multiple ways to study people's actions, and the need to scrap together a quick problem-solving solution in order to communicate new information to guests (and if the first solution doesn't work, you try again). In both industries, there are always new avenues for discovery. New trends, processes, technology, and competitive markets arise frequently, and as the practitioner, one learns to be nimble and adjust to requests and pushback when one's expertise does not align with a customer or client's demands. Through each, I found I am a leader. I found I dive head first into things I care about, and ultimately I connect and constantly view my world in systems large and small. Coffee has given me countless opportunities through avenues like competition, mentorship, training, tasting professionally, allowing me to curate communities and programs, and paving the way for me to kickstart my own business. I am thankful to both coffee and design for making me into the multi-interested, multi-talented, multi-driven, hyphenated individual (read: professional) I have and will become.
