Hi! I am a researcher in the domain of (intelligent & sustainable) mobility innovation and human-technology relations. I am also the leader of the Intelligent Mobility Cluster at HAN-Automotive Research and expert in the knowledge centre on Light Electric Vehicles. My background is in Science, Technology and Society Studies, so I am specialised in developing interdisciplinary research designs, both in terms of theory and methods. My interests revolve around socio-technical change, mobility, business ethics, (non-)waste, sustainability in all its forms, valorisation and (science) communication, and 'everyday' human behaviour. I currently work at the Automotive Research department at HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Here I do research, improve my project and team management skills, and teach engineers at the MSc level on the interrelations between mobility and their social and societal context(s), and in what ways they can perform as responsible engineers. On January 16, 2020, I defended my PhD dissertation titled Talking You Through: the Shifting Socio-Technical Practices of Radio Traffic News, 1950s-now. My PhD was on the socio-technical history of radio traffic reporting in the Netherlands, Southern-Germany and the New York metropolitan area since the 1950s. The thesis answers: How and to what extent have practices of gathering, presenting and listening to radio traffic information contributed to traffic flow control? You can read more about my thesis, or download it, here: https://cris.maastrichtuniversity.nl/en/publications/talking-you-through-the-shifting-socio-technical-practices-of-rad In my work I seek to combine different modes: I can generalise, yet I am thorough; I can work on my own, yet enjoy team efforts; and I seek to contribute to large-scale impact through big and small-scale changes through my research as well as educational activities! I also enjoy reaching out to broader audiences, and have done so in project publications and videos, newsletters, journal articles, newspapers and blogposts, on radio, and - when I still lived and worked in Maastricht - pitching for the TEDxMaastricht community. Before my PhD I graduated Cum Laude in an interdisciplinary Research Master Programme (MSc) and got my bachelor diploma Cum Laude, both in the domain of Technology and Society Studies at Maastricht University. Please don't hesitate to contact me for more detailed information about my current research, or if you have any suggestions for topics, talks, future projects or positions!
