I began my insurance career handling auto liability claims at a privately owned personal lines insurer. By moving into the commercial insurance space, I was able to continue developing my negotiation skills, manage litigated claims and assess potential coverage issues. Thereafter I moved to a third party claims administrator working directly with clients in managing their large self-insured retention and deductibles. It was in this area that I supervised a liability claims team ranging from new trainees to experienced personnel. I moved onto Excess Casualty Underwriting in the Excess and Surplus space and eventually moved into the Retail space.As a Casualty Excess Underwriter in the E & S and Retain spaces, I acquired the technical expertise to identify profitable accounts by analysing financial performance, identify special and common hazards and exposures of the class, analyse the loss history and measure controls in place to minimize loss experience. My technical underwriting ability enables me to craft the appropriate policy terms in order to provide the best coverage for the insured. By having a strong understanding of insurance principles, underwriting and pricing guidelines, I was able to develop an appropriate price according to the exposure. Thereafter I work closely with my agency partners to deliver the best solution to the insured. When transitioning to underwriting I was extremely excited to work in a different area of the industry than I had worked in all my career. I remain extremely excited in continuing to refine my underwriting expertise and extend my reach in the market to produce successful results for the organization, my team and myself.
