During my 3-months internship as a database administrator, I gained hands-on experience in designing, writing, testing, optimizing, and documenting stored procedures as well as performing other database-related tasks such as modifying database tables and maintaining scripts. Specifically, I: Worked closely with the application development team to understand the business requirements and designed stored procedures that met the needs of the application.Wrote stored procedures using SQL to process large volumes of data efficiently. This involved using programming constructs like loops, conditionals, and exception handling to create complex data processing logic.Tested stored procedures by creating test cases and running tests to ensure that they worked as expected and met performance requirements. I also debugged errors and worked with developers to fix any issues.Optimized stored procedures by analyzing query plans, tuning indexes, and rewriting code to reduce I/O, CPU, and memory usage. This helped to improve the performance of the database system and reduce query response time.Documented stored procedures by creating clear and concise documentation that included input/output parameters, dependencies, and error handling. This helped to make it easy for other developers and database administrators to understand the purpose and usage of the stored procedures.In addition to working with stored procedures, I also modified schema of the database to support a new feature in the application. I used SQL scripts to modify the table schema and update the data in the column.Furthermore, I maintained a script that automated routine database maintenance tasks, such as backups and database optimization. This involved writing and modifying SQL scripts and scheduling them to run automatically using tools such as SQL Server Agent.
