Seconded from Department of Water Affairs and Forestry to Department of Agriculture and Forestry of the former Republic of Transkei.Responsible for the management of the Central Forestry Region that included the general management of commercial plantations, woodlots and indigenous forests. Responsibilities included: compilation of APO’s; budgets and control thereof; management of roads contractors; liaison with TDC for all planning matters; personnel and labour union related matters; harvesting contractors; small sawmillers; compilation of working plans, silviculture, and fire protection plans for the region; liaison with the local sawmilling industry, involved in price negotiations; liaison with the recreational users of the plantation, for example the Transkei Piscatorial Society, liaison with general public, schools, and neighbours to our plantations regarding forestry related matters.During 1994 the former homelands and the old RSA were joined. A new Department of Water Affairs and Forestry was formed.
