In order to improve an Food Safety or a Human Rights issue in the supply chain you first need to understand where a supplier stands. One of the tools companies can use are audits. The CGF is using Marjan’s experience and leadership for strategic input and support on the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) and the SSCI (Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative) for re-organizing/setting up a Benchmarking of the worldwide standards for auditing on Human Rights and Food Safety.

International Supplier Auditing (ISA) started in 1996 as a part of Precon and was formalized to a separate company in 1998. ISA had the ambition to become market leader in the auditing against retail driven standards in the food industry in Europe. ISA was of the opinion that an audit should bring transparency and trust between retailers and their suppliers. Preventing audit tourism was a other driver. By using the best Food auditors worldwide ISA answered the question: is this supplier capable to provide a safe product that is in line with the agreed specification. To get the best native speaking Food and packaging auditors ISA created a franchise concept where the best audit companies in every country could become a part of the ISA network. With a UKAS accreditation the ISA network could demonstrate to all their clients that ISA Head office managed and checked every auditor and every audit. ISA played an active role in the promotion of market driven standards like BRC (Britisch Retail Consortium) and was appointed as the technical consultant for the Global Food Safety Initiative ( GFSI) board for a year. The International knowledge on auditing was used by the German and French retail federations to set up the IFS (International Featured standards) for Food, Logistic and Household and personal care. There was also active involvement in the development of the FEFCO GMP standard for the corrugated board. ISA was sold to NAK Agro on 1 January 2006 to assure extension of the network to more countries and to add more accreditation and certification schemes to the portfolio of ISA. From 2006 until 2008 Marjan was Commercial Director At the moment of sale in december 2006 ISA covered 16 countries and 300 auditors had been trained. Precon stands for: "prevention by control" and was set up to introduce the HACCP analyzing method in the Dutch food Industry. In 1992 Marjan got hold of the Codex Alimentarius where the HACCP analyzing method was described. She was convinced that this analysing method would allow an bottom up involvement of production staff in improving Food Safety and Hygiene. Precon was lucky: HACCP was picked up by retailers and became law for the Dutch Food Industry in 1995. Precon became market leader on the implementation of HACCP in all different types of industries. A hugely interesting period that brought inside in the Hazards and risks of the production of food and packaging. An enthusiastic team of 20 technologist implemented HACCP and quality systems in all parts of the Food Industry. Precon specialist where selected to work as witness auditors for the Dutch Board of Accreditation and we developed a HACCP training for the Dutch government. The company was sold to the Mazar group in 1998 because Marjan wanted to expand ISA (certification and auditing) and this was a conflict of interest with the consultancy activities in Precon.
