About Marjolein Shiamatey, Msc

Master in Physics - Science, Business and Innovation at the VU University of Amsterdam. Expertise in translating (science based) products into viable market solutions.I’m passionate about technology and financing; it’s my ambition to effectively combine these two to move innovations forward. At ReGen Villages (a Stanford University spin-off) I’m able to do so by being in a position to connect the dots by interacting with a lot of different stakeholders and by being part of the strategic team meetings. With my own company; Ophie Power, I’m involved in solar & sustainable project development in West-Africa with a special interest in Ghana. I’ve gained business experience in my previous jobs where I successfully developed a business case around solar lights (for Philips) and the use of remote monitoring in West-Africa.     In collaboration with scientists from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, artist Ivan Henriques developed a prototype for an autonomous photosynthetic bio-machine which harvests energy from photosynthetic organisms, applying this energy to movement to be able to collect photosynthetic organisms again. Symbiotic Machine is developed in collaboration with Raoul Frese and Vincent Friebe, scientists of VU Amsterdam Laser Lab, physicist Michiel van Overbeek and engineer Leydervan Xavier from Cefet/RJ (Technological School from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and invited by Zone2Source.During two months the Symbiotic Machine lived in an aquarium in the Glass House, where it feeds itself algae. In the back space research materials, objects, texts and drawings will be shown while hands on workshops for adults and kids will also be offered there. I personally developed and provided the workshop for children.The Symbiotic Machine was also part of the Phototech-Meeting: Biosensors and Biochips in Istanbul/Turkey, where I showcased the Machine as an Algae Powered Robot.
