I have been practicing law for more than 35 years. After I clerked for Vincent L. Broderick in the Southern District of New York I joined the predecessor to Ballard Spahr LLP (then Stillman, Friedman and Shaw, P.C). in 1986. My practice is principally white collar criminal defense, securities enforcement and general commercial litigation. I am the Managing Partner of Ballard’s New York Office and serve on the Firms 9 person Elected Board. I also Chair the Board of the New York City Bar Association I have handled virtually every type of white collar case, including FCPA, insider trading, bank secrecy act, accounting fraud, tax fraud, customs fraud, political corruption, securities fraud (including a myriad of matters before the SEC), block chain and crypto currency matters, mortgage fraud, commodities fraud, government procurement, and bribery, to name just a few. I also have represented professionals in licensing issues, (including doctors, lawyers and other licensed professionals) as well as a government employee in a disciplinary matter in front of the Joint Commission for Public Integrity (JCOPE). The Southern District of New York court has appointed me on several occasions to investigate and prosecute disciplinary matters. I have represented a number of companies who have been the victims of thefts by employees, and I have represented employees in negotiating severances from their companies. Executives from public companies routinely retain me to represent them in internal investigations related to conduct at their company. In short, my practice involves any type of case which can end up in court.On the civil side my practice has included sophisticated securities fraud cases, a large products liability case, mortgage related matters for a large financial institution, multiple matters before the New York Attorney General (including the Charities Bureau, the Civil Rights Bureau, the Health Care Bureau, the Medicaid Fraud Unit, and the Securities Bureau), real estate disputes and promissory note litigation, to name a few.
