Leading a cross-government programme to develop economic actions for the Scottish Government to be included in the Programme for Government and set the direction for clear deliverable economic actions and interventions.Lead stakeholder engagement. Chair the DG/ Director level group to take forward work on the PfG

- Leading a team of 3 personnel and representing the Scottish Government on economic, business, trade / investment and research and innovation in London.- Working closely with Scottish Ministers and developing and delivering appropriate government policy and legislation.- Holding position as a part of the Senior Leadership Team in Scotland House (London), and playing an instrumental role in developing a joint working approach with partners, notably on matters relating to business planning and delivering the inward investment plan.- Forging strong links with key embassies that feature in the Scottish Government’s Export Strategy and establishing strategic relations with key business organisations such as the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, City of London Corporation, London First and London Stock Exchange Group.- Negotiating formal agreements between the City of London Corporation and Scottish Government, to support efforts to attract hundreds of millions of pounds of investment into Scotland.- Securing international / global agreements with other countries and partners on issues as diverse as climate change, culture and investment to achieve mutual objectives.

- Directed the Scottish Government’s representation in London across breadth of diplomatic, cultural and economic areas and held position as an active member of the Directorate Management Team.- Led senior teams to establish links and engagement with senior level diplomats, business people and academics, and chaired meetings with Country Ambassadors.- Managed the smooth day-to-day running of the office and led a division of 13 personnel to achieve core objectives.- Set the direction of the Scotland House Board which had senior level representation from partners including Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Island’s Enterprise and VisitScotland.

- Directed a team of 3 personnel and acted as a conduit to the First Minister to ensure her views were represented in key policy developments. - Developed a swift understanding of diverse policies and established relations with Ministers, senior staff and peers in different policy areas to deliver the First Minister’s objectives.- Dealt with issues which included the response on support for employability and skills resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, and led on development of a high level business leaders engagement programme for the Economy Secretary ahead of the publication of the Scottish Government’s response to the Advisory Group for Economic Recovery’s report.

- Led a team of 11 personnel to manage Scotland's relationship with countries outside the EU / EEA, including the USA, Canada, China, Japan and South Korea.- Coordinated an 18 month plan for overseas Ministerial visits and represented the Scottish Government diplomatically at various meetings, events and engagements.- Liaised with a range of external stakeholders including Embassies, the FCO and third sector organisations to meet aims.- Chaired diverse project teams that delivered over 30 Ministerial international visits, and secured hundreds of millions of pounds of investment and thousands of jobs in Scotland.

Work on the Scottish Government's Bill Team too reform criminal procedure in Scotland and lead on the bail reforms.Lead on the implementation on the bail reforms with key stakeholders include COPFS and the Police.

- Represented Scotland in North America as the Scottish Government's most senior diplomat.- Engaged with other diplomats and key stakeholders, and organised the First Minister's visit to the USA, securing engagements including a talk at the UN and meetings with California Governor Jerry Brown and Hillary Clinton.- Worked in partnership with Team Scotland and delivered key business meetings including with Tim Cook at Apple to initiate collaboration on e-health, and a speaking slot at Stanford University to set out Scotland’s place in the world.
