I have spent a long time at this company and have held several positions in junior management in picture libraries serving all the Murdoch UK newspaper titles but never made it to the top of the tree. I am currently working on digitising and researching historic negatives - mainly of military history related subjects - I spent a couple of years doing the Great War, with more to do - but have now moved on to the NW Europe campaign of 44/45. This is all achieved within the limits of the wider job. My job title has now changed to Content Specialist in view of the merger of picture and information services at News UK in July 2015. I am training to fulfil this role. I still prefer the traditional title Picture Librarian to the new name, but I don't make the rules! Show less

My role is to manage reviews of books and anything else that comes our way. The reviews team is six strong based in the UK, USA and elsewhere. We aim to do a good job and have generally got things right. A site with 4 million visitors every month has to be taken seriously.I write features, relating to our media partners - I did some TV with one of them - and my battlefield touring adventures - but also reports on events and any other business. I worked at the now defunct Melody Maker for a number of years. It was here that I learned the basics of picture library work and I spent an equal amount of time doing reference library work and compiling record sales charts at a time when the MM's charts were a significant player in the industry. The decline in the paper's fortunes saw me scheduled for redundancy in the spring of 1986.
