I have extensive experience as a senior leader within local government and also in Private Sector consultancy. I possess a deep understanding of what councils do, how successful councils work, the dynamics of civic administration and how to bring about successful investment, development and regeneration. Increasingly I am convinced that systems thinking and the interfaces and read across with other key stakeholders and public agencies are fundamental. No surprise that I have been a massive supporter of devolution and the wider Public Sector Reform agenda.I firmly believe that we are in the age of new paradigms and we need a new mental map for public services. The models for public services that have served us well are not going to get us to where we need to be. Needless to say I am a follower of global mega trends...especially the rise of technology, demography and urbanisation.Examples of innovations I have been working on are building a council owned for profit housing company which now has a pipeline approaching 1,000 units, but perhaps the most game changing is the award winning River Severn Partnership which is leading nationally on developing new approaches to mitigating climate change driven flooding and water shortages as well as water quality.My professional background is as a Chartered Surveyor, and you may be surprised to learn I stated my working life as a Carpenter!
