Baggage Operations Manager
CurrentPart of Birmingham Airports terminal operations team leading the baggage operations department to manage the safe and efficient delivery of over 5 million items of passenger luggage per annum through the automated baggage system. Part of the senior Management team reporting into the head of terminal operations and operations director. Core project team member to successfully deliver Birmingham Airports 20m baggage handling system upgrade. Managing the Baggage Operations department to oversee 5 million items of baggage per annum through our automated baggage handling system. Overseen department re-structure to deliver cost effective and efficient baggage operations team in time for BHS project completion saving 200k on employee costs. Working with multiple airport departments to improve service delivery and process improvements across terminal operations, capacity, and security. Leading workshops with 3rd parties, airlines, and airport stakeholders to build contingency plans for unplanned events to ensure the impact to the airport operation is controlled and maintained. Successfully implemented CI process by working with ground handling teams to reduce mishandled baggage. Created a safety culture of excellence and reduced accidents by 20% by promoting the importance of a safe working environment and challenging the ‘norm’. Worked alongside development department and Health and safety department to deliver safe and effective baggage hall. Member of the Airports ‘incident management centre’ to deploy contingencies and emergency planning. Collaborated with the baggage engineering department to build local operating procedures in line with the BHS requirements to develop the Baggage teams and ensure continuity and the protection of our assets. Supporting the sustainability team to reduce the carbon footprint by identifying opportunities to save energy in the Baggage Hall and across the BHS system.
