A summary? Okay here goes..... After leaving school aged 16 (that happened back in the day!) I joined the army as an apprentice Electronic Warfare Operator, sounds cool eh! Lots of stuff happened between then and 1998 and if you don't know what then you don't need to know. :)I decided the best course of action was to then go the university and study for that now almost required in all jobs degree. I chose Marine and Freshwater Biology not only because James Bond made it sound cool but I was a big fan of Mike DeGruy (RIP) and his underwater film making.It's not as easy to get into the field as you might imagine, even if you offer to give your services for free so off to work in the water industry I went as first a Laboratory Technician for Anglian Water then around the circuit chasing any kind of decent wage but it was too fast for me to catch.With young family to feed and clothe I decided to give up on the dream and took a job in security at my alma mater (that hurt a little) and made more money a year in a hi-viz coat than I ever could in a lab coat.It was during this time, and with plenty of time to think, I decided to have a go at self employment on the side. I had been asked by a group of teachers if I would go into their school and talk about Tudor life and teach the kids archery. I had been an archer back in my apprentice days and had been dipping in and out of the sport as time and work allowed so I cheerfully agreed.Well that was it, my first cheque arrived and I was hooked! A few years later I took the plunge and went full time solo and haven't (no not ever) looked back.I now own and run a successful and growing activity centre on the Essex/Suffolk border and have a great little team of staff. We, you become a we as soon as you employ anyone, are now focussed on growing and filling those empty slots on the calendar. Here's to a future so bright I'll have to wear shades.
