About Mark Bofenkamp

Twenty-five year disciple of lean manufacturing. Performed in a leadership role for my entire professional career with a proven track record of accomplishments. Possess a very large tool box of knowledge, skills, and abilities that has allowed me to adapt and thrive in three distinctively dissimilar manufacturing arenas: exhaust, automotive seating, and custom equipment. Expertise includes Project Management, Costing, Training, Work Cell Design, Lean Manufacturing, and Design for Manufacturing. The focus on meeting my customer expectations and being an excellent team builder and member allowed me to perform above expectations in these diverse areas. Decisions are data driven with the knowledge that making three small quick steps through this decision making process yields better results than waiting to make one big step based on a large data set.Through the course of my career I have embraced the lean thinking and methodology of the Toyota Production System. While I have not had the advantage of becoming a Six Sigma Black Belt, I have benefited from utilizing many of the tools employed by these individuals. My objective at this point in my career is to work in a growing company that is a front runner in their respective industry. I am a good mentor with leadership skills that encourage growth personally and professionally. My preferred positions are Senior Program management or Engineering Management in any growing industry.

As the program manager, my duties varied widely. At any given time on any given day I was:• A technical salesman responsible for gathering the customer’s requirements for the project, developing the scope of work, concepting a proposal that met all the requirements and presenting a quotation.• Lead the design team to detail out the concepts so the tools and equipment performed as required for the customer. Some of the level of detail included specifying when to use bearing instead of slides, what type of cylinder should be used, and dictating what and where sensors were necessary for part present or cylinder location. I would lead design reviews with the customer as well at the appropriate times and manage the customer to minimize scope creep.• Follow up with vendors to verify and validate they were part of the plan to provide the components when they were expected. Frequent negotiations were involved.• Manage the shop work force and prioritize their activities to keep projects on schedule. Schedule overtime as required. As a standard practice on my part, I provided the guys daily feedback on their activities. Raises were awarded as they were earned. Discipline was also part of these duties.• Act as site supervisor when projects included installation at a customer location. In short, I was responsible for everything except the fine details of accounting and finance for the company.

  • Lear Corporation
    Senior Manufacturing Engineer
    Lear Corporation Nov 1994 - Aug 1997
    Southfield, Mi
Primary focus as a Senior M.E. was to launch new products, plants, and major engineering changes. I was the lead M.E. for a green field project for a passenger vehicle seating system. The vehicle had seating for five with an optional third row as well. As the lead, I developed and specified the tooling for the assembly lines. These activities also specified the size of the finished goods inventory and the point of use display and storage of incoming components. Before the green field project, I was the lead M.E. for two major engineering changes at two different plants. The larger project converted the plant from producing the vehicle seating in 12 identical cells into a front row and rear row seating assembly lines. Some small sub-assembly areas were also needed to feed these lines. In this position, I was traveling 60-80% of the time. The extent of this travel led me to pursue plant based opportunities.
