Profile bio

About Mark Bond

Known for my absolute passion in policing, risk management, intelligence skills and keeping international borders safe, I am sought after for my SME knowledge on international people groups, border agency liaison and engagement, air and sea ports, risk, intelligence and security. I am able to operate at all levels with both my government and non-government agency peers and executive leaders. Combined with advanced-level communication skills this has enabled me to provide a principal advisory role to many agencies during operations, including military and emergency response to terrorist attacks, fires, floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. I’m also there for the people that need my knowledge to enhance theirs, for they are our future. Being a mentor is a professional gift that cannot have a price placed upon it.I have extensive experience of dealing with VIPs, celebrities and high profile persons of interest.During the last thirty years I have also supported extensive intelligence and security operations linked to international sports events, including the European Football Championships, Test cricket, Premier League football, the British Lions tour of New Zealand, the Rugby World Cup and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.During the period 2020-2022 I acted as the police liaison officer for the government response to the international pandemic - coordinating a combined response to the pandemic and planning maritime operations to maintain a robust supply chain. With three decades of service, multi-agency and risk management knowledge across two international policing jurisdictions I bring experience at a level that is only possible to achieve by 'being there' and 'doing that'.I am trained in CPTED (UK/NZ) and have used it to great effect at two major projects at Auckland International Airport and another current one at a new government HQ in Auckland. The principles of this branch of the crime sciences are simple and wrap perfectly around the risk strategies of Deter, Detect, Deny, Delay, and Defend. Getting up every morning with a passion for success and front-footing my aim to keep my adopted country safe is never a chore - and I hope that one day celebrating the many wins and being the mortar in the brickwork of so many successful relationships will be my lasting legacy. Alter ego! - International thriller author of six novels, soon to be seven, traditionally published by successful UK publishing house.

Senior Fco Analyst

New Zealand

Itoc Leadership Team

Auckland, New Zealand

A key member of the Integrated Targeting & Operations Centre leadership team - working with New Zealand Customs Service, MBIE Immigration, Aviation Security Service, MPI, Maritime New Zealand and the New Zealand Transnational Crime Unit - my role is to support the Director: Integration and my peers to ensure that we unite for a safe border and a prosperous New Zealand. By using my many years of experience at the New Zealand border I am able to both identify opportunities and solutions to the good of all of the agencies present.

Maritime Ports Liaison Officer

New Zealand

Following the success of the Covid-19 supply chain programme I was tasked to link up Police to all New Zealand maritime ports. This was something that appealed to me, given my successes with the aviation sector. Over the next year I met and worked with the teams at all of New Zealand's main maritime ports, teams who were nothing but supportive and remain so to this day. This liaison role allowed me to better understand the crucial role that our maritime ports play in New Zealand's supply chain, and also how the security of each port is critical. Understanding the relationships, the risks, e.g. insider threat and the critical need to keep trade moving globally has been eye-opening.During the last year I have also supported all of these teams in a drive to better understand how ports can attract protests and work with those people who wish to legally protest, something which I've led on in a number of areas - pro-Palestinian protests, environmental protests and lately, those teams specifically targeting the cruise ship sector. Finding a balance when working with protest groups is a fine art.I'm delighted to be able to add Maritime to my already broad portfolio - coming from a sea-faring family I'm sure my ancestors are equally delighted.

Police Liaison Officer

Highly experienced government liaison officer with three decades of service across two jurisdictions - skillfully linking New Zealand Police and its sister agencies based at the Integrated Targeting & Operations Centre to other New Zealand and international government agencies, foreign embassies, consular offices and non-government organisations. Sought-after subject matter expert - aviation and maritime intelligence, inter-agency liaison, incident response, people groups, border security, airlines, air and seaports.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Practitioner (Cpted)

Trained practitioner (both UK and NZ) - this method of designing out crime has been used successfully by me on two prior major projects at Auckland International Airport (The major long-stay carpark and the Novotel Hotel in support of Tainui) and latterly in support of the New Zealand Customs Service as part of the overall risk assessment of their new multi-agency headquarters in Auckland - a report that was described as "significantly timesaving and extremely helpful".

Kaiārahi (Mentor)

Wellington, New Zealand

Intelligence mentor to four Intelligence Support Officers - all of whom spread their professional wings and moved into either Analyst roles or full-time constabulary roles.I have also helped write and deliver the Field Intelligence Officer training programme in its early stages - now recognised as a centre of excellence in the collections sector.Beyond my organisation, I have also had the absolute pleasure of mentoring another four trainee analysts in organisations such as Dept of Corrections and DIA. One of these has secured a great analyst's role at Interpol's HQ in Lyon, France - the other won the NZIIP award for new practitioners. To be there in the beautiful surroundings of New Zealand's parliament buildings when she accepted her award was a genuine honour.

Apr 2018 - Dec 2023

Covid-19 Maritime Supply Chain Liaison Officer

New Zealand Police Liaison Officer - supporting the Integrated Targeting & Operations Centre to ensure a robust supply chain operation was able to function during the critical phases of the global pandemic. Via existing and developing relationships I was able to support the New Zealand Customs Service, Immigration NZ, Maritime New Zealand and the Ministry of Health. Further relationships were fostered in the maritime sector which flourish to this day.
