This national agency specialises in the analysis of financial transaction information for the detection of money laundering and terrorist financing threats (AML/CTF), supplying intelligence to multiple government agencies and the financial services industry. The value chain of the agency is the capture of financial transaction data and the transformation of this data into financial intelligence for the purpose of regulating financial entities and preventing financial crime.The mission was to assist the agency in a business transformation initiated by the incoming CEO to make the agency more operational. Starting from a new Strategic Business Plan, a Target Operating Model/blueprint of the organisation was required, as well as a supporting Capability Plan. The Blueprint mapped current state architecture and introduced new capability to renovate the agency’s information management chain: risk analysis, multiple data sources, ETL with quality management and linear management tools, data matching, and “big data” analytics (NoSQL, Hadoop parallel processing, deepQA). Some of the most interesting challenges were introducing new, strategic working practices into an organically evolved organisation; working at a strategic level with senior executives, but also empowering more junior staff; building business governance with portfolio planning of initiatives and projects; and developing a business architecture practice.

Talent is a recruitment agency that has developed a 5-year strategy for international expansion (APAC, Europe and the US) and the introduction of innovative recruiting and consulting products.The mission is to develop an infrastructure strategy to support the business growth strategy. This includes the design of a global private WAN network (data and VOIP), supporting three virtual data-centers (for APAC, Europe & USA) and desktop VDI. Outsourcing was the key option with IAAS, PAAS, and DAAS (Infrastructure, Platform and Desktop as a service). Along side the global WAN, a public Internet would also support the new business system based on Salesforce, web sites on the Amazon cloud, and Office 365. The objective is one global company, featuring user mobility and collaboration and virtual user devices.The strategy included the development of current and target architecture, a transition roadmap, cost analysis, vendor selection and Board presentation.The enterprise is currently implementing this strategy.

Transport for NSW is the recent amalgamation of state transport agencies (Railcorp, RTA, etc.) into a single cluster (managing owner and train, bus, road and ferry operators).The mission was to lead the development of an Enterprise Asset Management operating model for the NSW Transport cluster with a team of architects, transport and SAP experts. The tasks included:• Working with senior executives across the Transport cluster in Investment Planning, Capital development, Service Management, and Trains, Roads and Buses agencies to define the new, integrated operations• Formulating the operating model in terms of European best practice, high-level Transport processes based on the ISO55000 value chain.• Developing with the team supporting views of capability, information, target SAP application modules and target integration and data migration efforts.• Defining for a future program the transformation target state and roadmap. This included solution architecture, work packages, inter-program dependencies, change requirements and cost estimations for the business case.

A series of short-term consulting missions: • Business model: developed the business model for a start-up company wanting to install industrial-scale storage as part of classic and alternative energy distribution in Australia.•Program Architect: led a team of architects form DB Results at a Canberra utility, ActewAGL, to design a replacement program for four projects in Electricity Distribution, Retail, Finance and HR. A TOGAF based design was conceived and developed.• Data Quality Improvement: provided a series of strategies to improve the quality of QA business data at Woolworths.• Mobility operating model: developed an eTom based operating model to support a mobile triple-product play for a large telco.
