I'm a restoration ecologist with over 25 years of experience working on rivers across the western U.S. and northern Mexico, including the Rio Grande/Bravo, Rio Conchos, Colorado River and its delta, Santa Cruz River, Little Colorado River, Gila River. Focus of my work includes assessment of river biophysical conditions, on-the-ground rehabilitation, climate change, environmental flow, socioeconomic benefits of restoration, and monitoring. I also conduct workshops on river restoration in both Mexico and the United States. I recently stepped away from working over 12 years along Rio Grande/Bravo, where I worked binationally to bring back the Rio Conchos and Rio Grande/Rio Bravo in west Texas, northern Chihuahua and Coahuila. I have a variety of technical publications, including a book on developing river restoration projects and numerous articles on restoration, monitoring, and natural resource research. I'm lead editor on a forthcoming stream restoration guidebook with 32 authors from Australia, Mexico and US. I sit on the editorial board of the international journal Restoration Ecology. Other than restoration work, I spend much of my time hiking, biking, floating rivers, and writing.

New River/New World conducts all aspects of stream and watershed restoration, from design and planning, to implementation, to monitoring and evaluation. We excel at building collaborative partnerships and working with a diversity of players to develop restoration that will be long-term viable and broadly supported. Our restoration efforts have taken place on big rivers and small streams throughout northern Mexico and southwestern US.

Led, developed and implemented a binational restoration response to the Rio Grande/Bravo. Main responsibilities included developing strong collaborative partnerships with federal and state land and water agencies, businesses and foundations, institutes, organizations, and citizens from both Mexico and US. During the 12 years in this position, our binational team restored over 160 km of the RGB along the border, as well as several tributaries, conducted monitoring, prioritized next steps, convened numerous binational meetings and forums, and wrote a variety of articles and reports that described our progress.

Worked on collaborative stream restoration projects throughout the southwestern US and northern Mexico. Examples of projects include restoration efforts along the Little Colorado River, Colorado River Delta, Lower Colorado River, Santa Cruz River in Mexico, and Rio Grande/Rio Bravo along the US-Mexico border.

As director of science and restoration at the Sonoran Institute, I worked with the institute's director and board to develop a collaborative, binational restoration response for degraded rivers on or near the US-Mexico border. In this capacity, we led stream restoration efforts along the Santa Cruz River in Mexico, the little Colorado River, and Colorado River Delta. We also published a book on stream restoration and a variety of articles on restoration design, tactics, effectiveness and prioritization.
