Mark C. Hadden has been a litigator since 1984, handling trial cases involving insurance coverage, land use planning and zoning, municipal law, complex products liability, commercial and business litigation, toxic tort, wrongful death, medical malpractice and personal injury litigation for both plaintiffs and defendants. In one landmark case, he was retained as counsel in the U.S. District Court (D.R.I.) suit relating to The Station nightclub fire tragedy, by Essex Insurance Co., an insurer of the club. His cases have included the defense of multi-million dollar CERCLA toxic tort insurance coverage actions involving three of the largest superfund sites in Rhode Island; land use planning litigation for the Town of Exeter as counsel to the Exeter Planning Board; the settlement of a personal injury claim on behalf of a motor vehicle accident victim for $2.6 million; the defense of three of Rhode Island’s major hospitals in various medical malpractice litigation; the representation of the Commission on Judicial Tenure and Discipline in its successful revocation of the pension of a local superior court judge who had been convicted of taking bribes; and the assistance with local investigations in furtherance of the defense of professional boxer Michael G. Tyson.Mr. Hadden is also experienced in municipal, planning and zoning law, and has represented the Towns of North Smithfield, Lincoln, and Exeter, including six years as counsel to the Exeter Planning Board; and, as special legal consultant, the towns of North Kingstown, South Kingston, Bristol, East Greenwich, West Greenwich, Tiverton, and Barrington. He was Town Solicitor for the Town of North Smithfield, R.I. for four years from 2005 to 2008, and assistant solicitor in 1999-2000, during which time he handled a wide range of municipal legal issues, including criminal prosecutions.
