Squad leaders carry out the orders issued by the platoon commander. They are responsible for the discipline, appearance, training, control, conduct, and welfare of their squads at all times, as well as for the condition, care, and economical use of their weapons and equipment. In combat, they are also responsible for the tactical employment, fire discipline, fire control, and maneuver of their squads. They take position where they can best carry out the orders of their platoon commander and observe and control their squads.

The Scout Squad Leader is the senior Scout Team Leader within the LAR Platoon. The Scout Squad Leader carries out the orders of the Platoon Commander. He is responsible for the tactical employment, fire discipline, fire control, and maneuver of his Scout Squad. In Addition he is responsible for the execution and proficiency of conducting deep reconnaissance, route reconnaissance and observation tactics including photographing and communicating to higher echelons of command. He is also responsible for the discipline, appearance, training, control, conduct, and welfare of his squad at all times, as well as the condition, care and economical use of its weapons and equipment. His team is assigned to the platoon commander’s vehicle.

The Scout Team Leader carries out the orders of the Vehicle Commander and the Scout Squad Leader. He is responsible for the fire discipline and control of his Scout Team and for the condition, care, and economical use of its weapons and equipment. He is also responsible for the effective employment of his rifle and for the condition and care of his weapons and equipment. He is the “Fighter/Leader” and he leads his team by example and action.
