Mark Carpenter is a director, producer, and writer, originally from the UK, now working in the US and Europe. He specializes in earth science documentaries. His work on Faces of Earth (Discovery Channel) for AGI, launched his interest, where he sketched various storyboards for sophisticated CGI sequences. He re-wrote and reformatted the series into short films for school kids, called Visions of Earth. Both won awards. When asked to help Chicago’s overstretched science teachers, Mark produced a series of short films - hands-on cooking show style on plate tectonics and fossils, helping teachers to learn activities faster. He attended film school by night class in New York, providing the technical know-how and inspiration for various works from Energy Literacy in Ecuador and entertaining fundraisers. Mark applies his knowledge from substantial published non-film geoscience content on earth system science, from kids to undergrads in the US. He has worked on projects with the USGS, NASA, NOAA, NAGT, GSA, Smithsonian, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and given workshops on earth science across the United States.Today, his passion is focused on video, and lately the wonderfully original short films of the Geology of the Tour de France TV segments (NOS/ITV/GeoSports), whose integration within pro-cycling is something quite special. He is currently working as a Freelancer out of Amsterdam engaging in productions from concept design to broadcast. Mark is highly selective about projects and qualified to work in the US, UK, and Europe.
