My passion is creating better website experiences for users, driven by a blend of quantitative and qualitative data.I believe that SEO can and should be central to that process by understanding the role search engines play in shaping user journeys and influencing purchase decisions. I prefer an approach that prioritises user needs in decision making, which allows SEO to dovetail with UX, marketing and brand functions far more effectively.Too much of contemporary SEO practice is still based on old ideas of targeting algorithmic ranking factors, despite the opaque nature of search engine mechanics and the increasing use of machine learning data. I’m an SEO who understands how search engines work but also recognises the limits of what SEOs can know about their inner-workings.The SEO of the present and future is less hands-on but advocates and educates for good practice across a range of functions and nurtures integrated working.Ten years working within a leading agency means I’ve experienced a wide range of clients, including e-commerce, financial services and corporate publishing. I’ve worked on household name brands and some of the world’s largest multinationals.I bring a strong technical background, with (admittedly rusty) experience of front-end coding languages and a deep understanding of best practices.I bring a strong strategic and commercial sense, meaning I understand the place of SEO in the wider business context. I design SEO strategies that align with business objectives and I communicate with senior business stakeholders in their language to build a case for SEO investment.I’m a data analyst who can use SEO data to uncover business intelligence or actionable tactical insights. I’m experienced with Google Data Studio and can find my way around a Big Query dataset. I’m an experienced and confident presenter.I’ve gained five years experience leading an agency SEO team and believe that a good leader empowers their teams to high performance by creating a positive environment that reduces pressure and fear of failure.
