Workflow design and project delivery of the VSN Media Asset Management and News Production systems for GBC TV. Role included requirements capture, workflow design and project delivery.

Lead the design, planning and launch of UTV Ireland - a new television channel based in Dublin. Managed all aspects of the project including the install of a new playout centre in Belfast, a digital asset management system for the UTV and UTV Ireland archive and the build and fit out of the studios and production base in Dublin. Provided advice, guidance and training and lead the specification of both architectural and technical equipment and workflows. Project managed the delivery of a complete news production system comprising Avid iNews/Interplay/Media Composer, Ross video hardware, Cambridge Imaging Asset Management and an Exterity IPTV system.

Launched the Flowza range of animating word clocks. Successful Kickstarter campaign hugely exceeding targets, delivering over 145 clocks to very happy customers. Production and Media Management review in response to increasing demand for video content to support lecture catch up and online courses.Delivered fully costed, cloud based proposal including naming convention, workflow, roles and operational practice.

Shaped and conducted a comprehensive review on behalf of the management board across technical functions and the solutions business to inform and enable STV's continued transformation and change management programme from traditional broadcaster to digital media business. Created detailed recommendations for the management board including organisational models, operating costs and financial evidence.

Responsible for the internal consulting team within ITV Technology working across Production, Global Distribution and Rights.Played a key role in the transformation of the ITV technology team, including a major outsourcing of a large part of the support team.Recruited and implemented an internal consultancy function based on a matrix management structure.Developed and introduced consulting toolkit and internal performance measurement culture. Oversaw a Technology/Strategy Alignment initiative aimed at improving prioritisation and resource allocation.

Responsible for technology strategy across ITV Studios and Rights. Included operational and technical standards and responsibility for internal business systems (IT) teams.• Delivered numerous production specific projects, procurement initiatives and enhanced workflows across ITV’s most famous programme brands • Digital music library – digitisation, automated search and desktop preview of published music. Including semi-automated rights clearance, usage tracking through edit suite integration and the creation of cue sheets • Desktop Production – introduction of a full end-to-end desktop production system based on Cinegy allowing media to be logged, clipped and sorted prior to the edit process. • Piloted a digital archive initiative for the storage, conversion and syndication of digital content.• Introduced Document Storage and Indexing for direct access to artist and rights contracts.• Introduced various data and workflow improvements across Rights, Libraries, Off-screen Talent, Artiste Payment and New Ideas generation.• Rolled out ITIL based service management• Introduced standardised Project Methodology based on Prince2

Responsible for technology and operations across 11 news regions.• Large scale roll-out of digital news centres across the country managing both technology and business change• Creating a unified staffing and operating model • Introduction of Desktop Editing using Avid Unity for News• Introduction of automated Satellite News Gathering capability, increasing capability from 10 trucks to 15, whilst reducing overall costs • Network lines consolidation and rationalisation using data-centric (MPLS) lines for combined video and data use improving flexibility and reducing costs• Adoption of file based (drag and drop) media exchange between sites

Responsible for all News and Transmission (playout) services across the Carlton franchises (Carlton London, Central, HTV, Westcountry). Oversaw the move of transmission facilities to LNN, London. Initiatives included:• Re-structuring and harmonising of staffing across the four franchises• Introduction of effective service measurement • Specifying, negotiating and implementing the unified MPLS network for ITV

Responsible for all technical and operational areas including site services, IT and engineering. • Implemented an industry leading tapeless new production environment including software development to allow archiving and monitoring• Member of the Digital Television Steering group with responsibilities for the launch of ITV on DTT, the adoption of widescreen adoption and the definition of various metadata models

Part of the team responsible for the design and build of the award winning Westcountry Television Studio in Plymouth. Included first UK deployment of digital radio (ETSI) links, first fully automated scripting and playout system, use of low-energy “cold lighting”, highly multi-skilled environment including video-journalists plus a network of 7 sub-regional contribution studios.
