Dr. Chen has been working in medical device industry for more than 15 years, involving in biocompatible coating development using plasma coating deposition, surface modification and wet chemical coating process. He worked as a Research Manager and Scientific Consultant for five years at BioSurface Engineering Technologies, Inc. and its predecessor InnerDyne Medical, Inc., where he performed plasma process optimization and development of biocompatible plasma coatings on medical devices and implants, such as vascular stents, ePTFE vascular graft tubing, guide wires, sutures, syringe plungers and surgical needles. He also developed plasma coating recipes for drug diffusion control, and managed multiple collaborative projects with US Surgical Corporation (currently known as Covidien) and Boston Scientific Corporation on lubricious coatings and bioactive coatings. Since joining Nanova, Inc. in 2007 as a co-founder, Dr. Chen has successfully led two NIH funded SBIR Phase II projects: one for development of a non-thermal plasma brush for dental caries prevention and dental restorations, and one for improved long-term biocompatibility of coronary stents by plasma coating process. Dr. Chen has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles in his field of expertise, and is an inventor on over 10 US patents.
