I have been a Planning and Regeneration practitioner since the early 1990s and have detailed knowledge of regeneration funding and project delivery. My background includes the development of commercial, residential and infrastructure projects; the preparation of business cases for investment; navigating projects through public sector appraisal and subsidy control rules; the negotiation of complex funding and joint venture agreements; and the implementation of projects and area-based regeneration programmes.I have led project teams that have secured Levelling Up Fund, Future High Streets Fund, Heritage Action Zone, Local Enterprise Partnership, Combined Authority, Heritage Lottery Fund and Charitable Trust investments. I have also secured funding for and managed the direct delivery of a number of historic building refurbishment projects. This resulted in a Regional Award for Excellence from the West Midlands Royal Town Planning Institute in 2015.I am a Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Town Planner and work with a wide range of private, public and third sector delivery partners. I have a particular interest in securing land remediation and gap-funding investment to support the delivery of brownfield land regeneration projects, including the delivery of social and affordable housing. I also have an interest in the delivery of ‘place based’ outcomes through the development of theory of change models, with implementation supported through the assembly of mixed funding packages. To date, I have been directly involved in around £150m+ of regeneration grants that have supported the delivery of £455m+ of land and property related projects.Throughout my career, I have held a number of external positions. I have been a Planning Aid Volunteer since 1991, Chairman of West Midlands Planning Aid Service from 2007 to 2010; and an External Examiner at Birmingham City University from 2009 to 2013. In a voluntary capacity, I have raised approximately £190,000 to support local charitable and voluntary organisations; have been involved in the preparation of a Neighbourhood Plan for the community where I live; and am currently helping a local church charity, community organisation and food bank to raise funds to improve its facilities.
