Verizon Sr Engr Consultant-System Architecture
•Ahold/Delhaize Distribution Center Refresh Project: Upgraded 22 distribution centers. Created a configuration template that could be used for all distribution centers. The new core used Cisco 9500 and 9300 switches. Layer 3 using new Cisco ISR 4431 routers, WAN1, WAN2, (WAN3 across broadband internet IPsec to Verizon Sig-GW backup router). All routers received new Circuits as needed. New W1 & W2 upgraded to 1Geth with 1500meg Committed Access Rate CAR for voice data. A review of QOS at all sites to prioritize and optimize traffic, new BGP config to operate all three routers in one autonomous system.•Ahold/Delhaize Return to Work Project (using FortiGate Firewalls & Cisco 9K Stack Wise Virtual Switches: New design for all small to medium office sites, that remove Cisco WAN routers and terminate circuits on FortiGate Firewalls primary and secondary. I illustrated the new design using Visio. FortiGate FW connects to circuits via 9500 switches as a trunk. To support this design, configured VLANs, trunks, ether channels to uplink closets, and UDLD aggressive mode to detect fiber issues. It is a cost-effective design, eliminating 2 Cisco routers and routing now moved to Fortinet firewalls. •Professional Place Office Upgrade from Catalyst 6500 Switch to New Cisco 9500 & 9300 Stack Wise Switches: Professional Please is a large office complex with on-site application servers. Refreshing this site was normal in migrating away from the old 6500 networks to a collapse core design using new Cisco 9000 switches.•Greenville Datacenter Consolidation of WAN between ATT and Verizon. Created a new MPLS Design to Work with Datacenter Nexus Core. Designed new separate BGP routing infrastructure to collapse current Ahold Corporate and Retail WAN environments into one BGP AS connected to Verizon PIP using Cisco ASR1002X routers and 1Gig redundant Ethernet circuits. Presented new network design using Visio diagrams and proposed step-by-step implementation plan to Ahold.See Resume.

•Cisco Nexus Core Retail Datacenter Upgrade. Designed new datacenter redundant BGP routing solution for 1000+ retail stores. Upgraded all stores from older core 6500 Cisco network to new Nexus core network. Designed BGP routing AS between Nexus 7K VDC and retail ASR router network. The new design allowed BGP per session load balance for all store applications. Increased reliability in the implementation by developing a 3 step plan for migration from the old core network to the new Nexus core and presented plan to customer for approval. All steps were completed on time without incident using change management processes. Customer Ahold was pleased with the overall smoothness and short outage time for the conversion. The end result is a robust new infrastructure meeting all the customer’s present and long term requirements.•IBM S/390 Mainframe to Nexus Core. Designed new OSPF routing with multiple areas across Nexus 7000 core. Challenges were to move 2 IBM processors over to the Nexus core in a limited outage window. Design goals were to create OSPF stub area for mainframe connectivity via GIG Ethernet in a layer 3 connection, eliminate single point of failure, tune OSPF routing protocol for faster convergence, and provide redundant SNA data failover via Cisco’s SNASw routers. The new design improved the IP performance to the mainframe and simplified the SNA architecture. The change was accomplished in the negotiated outage window with Ahold.•Designed and implemented a new Cisco dual router store solution for 1000+ Ahold grocery stores. Migrated stores away from ISDN to cellular circuit restoration. Challenges involved BGP routing to core network using cellular link, MPLS with 2 router design, and DLSW Ethernet redundancy for SNA data. Implemented Cisco advanced object tracking (IOS 12.4) for monitoring circuit reliability, and HSRP failover. •Upgraded Stop and Shop warehouse, Freetown Massachusetts for Redundant routing using multiple carriers.

Accomplishments:• Designed million dollar plus new Cisco network for Ahold warehouse American Sales, Lancaster NY. Upgraded existing network to new Cisco IOS 6500 redundant cores, 3500 distribution switches, and 1200 AP wireless network. Tasks were to gather network requirements for LAN, WAN, wireless, Fiber distribution to wiring closets, and power requirements. As the lead network engineer, I procured all network equipment and configured the Cisco IOS 6500, 2800 routers, 3500 closet switches, and wireless APs in a lab before implementation. The new network was installed within a 10 day window resulting in no outages to the customer as they migrated to the new network. Project was recognized by EDSs management as an enormous win/win for the Ahold account.• Responsible for configuring core network IBM Disaster Recovery, Gaithersburg MD. Responsible for configuring core network for WAN/ LAN network within a 12 hour period. Configured network successfully and tested MPLS WAN restoring routing to regional offices and store network. Completed connections and all tests to IBM s/390 main frame, core LAN server farm, DMZ for local internet access and application servers. Received high praise from the client for meeting all deadlines.• Successful core router WAN upgrade of 700 Stop and Shop stores to OC3 ATM over frame-relay network. The challenges were to convert the stores on the primary core router network from T3 circuit to OC3 ATM. The secondary core network required a backup PVC map-class configuration to rate limit the stores secondary PVC to 256kbps. The new primary core network increased the stores speed to 1000Kbps. The OC3 connection provided expanded bandwidth for the stores internet and email applications.
Lead Network Analyst Sr
Accomplishments• New Ahold IS Datacenter in Greenville SC. Installed and configured a new Cisco network along with a design team to support the Ahold datacenter and core campus offices. Configured Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 4000 switch network using VLANs, 802.1 trunks, MSFC layer 3 switching, HSRP, OSPF routing design, internet routers, and business partner DMZ network. The new network allowed Ahold operating companies to consolidate resources and access the datacenter across a corporate WAN BGP private network.• Redesigned the OSPF routing for BiLo stores to support multi-area OSPF Dial on Demand Routing. Configured Cisco AS5300 access servers to support multi OSPF area routing and Cisco Secure ACS authentication for ISDN and POTS network access. The new design resolved support issues for the stores by allowing different OSPF areas to connect to the same Cisco access server when going into DBU.• Developed the new BILO store point of sales network using Cisco routers and switches. Designed new network in lab to implement new technologies using frame-relay, multi-area OSPF routing, Cisco DLSw (SNA over TCP/IP) for credit/debit/EFT/check processing, DDR backup routing, Cisco IRB, and Remote access via Cisco 2509 terminal server for troubleshooting. Conducted instruction training session for first and second level support staff on new technology, wrote training procedures, created detailed VISIO network diagrams, and worked within change management to implement new design. The design and technical solution was a complete success being cost effective, low maintenance and supportable. Design model was adopted by all Ahold retail operating companies and became the gold standard design for Stop and Shop, Giant Landover and Giant of Carlisle PA.
