Since no retail channel existed, I developed a unique partner program to use existing manufacturers like Apple, Compaq, Belkin, H-P, Xerox, etc., as our “sales force,” and set up an e-commerce site. Next, I opened retailers like CompUSA, Fry’s, & Micro Center to sell the networking products. I re-positioned Unibrain to enter the Network Attached Storage (NAS) markets take advantage of much larger growth markets.

This was an industry first, and it was something Sony's Broadcast engineers said could not be done, but I found a solution, and was issued a patent. Model D20.* Developed low-cost, easy-to-use SMPTE time code products; this made us #1 in the market in less than 1 year.* Developed first portable DAT recorder for movie location use.* Developed first center track SMPTE 1/2" two track audio tape recorder. Model E-22.* Developed small, great sounding, powerful monitor speaker model 6301B. This is still in production 30 years later!!!* Brought to market the first planar magnetic headphones, model T20, and sold many thousands. This is decades before the current headphone craze.• Managed all advertising and promotional campaigns (including dealer sales incentive plans).• Initiated new product and marketing ideas; brought over 80 new products to market. Many of these products were conceived by me and included patentable ideas. Company went from nowhere to #2 in the market in just 18 months.• Started and managed software development team (Macintosh/UNIX/MS-DOS) based in the U.S. because I believed we needed software modifications to our products to support our local customers’ needs. This move helped us grow from zero to 80% market share in SMPTE time code synchronization products within 2 years.

    Originally hired to start new Professional products division, I developed new power amplifiers for studio and touring sound systems. The P50 amp I helped design was the first 1U size amp that was fan-cooled, fully complementary/symmetry circuitry, and had built-in crossovers. It had far more amplifier power than any competitor, and was also the first amp to have an automatic mono switching mode. It took 10 years before any competitor could even come close to its performance. The rock group The Police was one of our first customers. Built and managed sales rep organization. Later promoted to handle their hi-fi products as well.

I was responsible for many new products, even small but important improvements like moving the thumb rest on the Fender basses to the bass side of the strings instead of the treble side (which became the industry standard). I worked on the Super Twin Reverb, brought the "old tech" back to the products (like potting the pickups to eliminate hum) to correct mistakes of the CBS buyout, and many others. During this time, I implemented the first FM wireless guitar system in the USA. Using the Beyer wireless mic system from Germany, I built the system into a bass "suit" for Dan Hartman of the Edgar Winter Group - this was written up in TIME magazine. I put 100s of LEDs into special costume clothes for many entertainers working with clothing designer Bill Whitten of Workroom 27. In other words, I was doing "wearables" 30 years ago!
