I still work there- first i started as a sales merchandiser and then, by recommendation, I was given a responsibility of Loss Prevention which involves monitoring the movement in and out of products to ensure that store loss is within acceptable limit. This is gone by through a routine of periodically running audit on stock position and daily stock take exercise on a particular set of SKU's(stock keeping units). Decisions on what to do with bad and damaged products is also mine to take with a periodic reports presented to the relevant departments for evaluation and further decisions.

Since retail involves buying and selling of products whose presence in a store is regarded as STOCK, a STOCK MANAGER has the responsibility of making sure that these products are accurately stocked in quantity and quality. In cases where there is stock imbalance or poor quality, the stock manager investigates why and formulate regulations to forestall possible future re-occurrence. A good stock manager doesn't wait till such fouls occur before making preventive strategies. This is called Retail Loss Prevention.
